Bourbon County in Kentucky Derby 2018

Five years ago tonight (Thursday of Derby Week), we were celebrating FIVE Bourbon County Homegrown entries in that year’s Kentucky Derby.  Included in that number was our GOLDENCENTS and the eventual winner was (drumroll, please)….  Claiborne-born and raised (and now stallion) ORB. This year, there are three Kentucky Derby horses foaled in Bourbon County:  Enticed, Magnum Moon, and Promises Fulfilled. Lyra’s up to her eyeballs with guests at the B&B, catering and lots of guests at Lil’s and all the foaling season goings on at the farm.  So I’m updating you on our Bourbon County connections. MAGNUM MOON was born right next door to Rosecrest and Wilshire Farms at Claiborne Farm, so we’ll start with him.  In many years, the undefeated colt would be the favorite for the race.  He won the Rebel S.-G2 and the Arkansas Derby-G1 (by four lengths!) on the Oaklawn Park path to the Derby.  There is a LOT to like about Magnum Moon’s story if you like deep Bourbon County roots, and you can read that story if you CLICK HERE  . ENTICED is the next nearest foaled….at Darley’s Stonerside Farm.  He won the Kentucky Jockey Club S-G2 at Churchill last year and the Gotham S.-G3 this year and most recently was second in the big Derby prep, the Wood Memorial.  You can read his story if you CLICK HERE  . PROMISES FULFILLED was born in northwestern Bourbon County, on Russell Cave Road, at Crowning Point Farm.  He was consigned as a yearling by Select Sales, when Carrie Brogden (of Bourbon County’s Machmer Hall farm) helped him find his trainer Dale Romans.  The winner of the classic Florida prep...
