Welcome January 2020, while everyone is celebrating and wishing friends and family “Happy New Year” here in Paris Ky many are singing “Happy Birthday”.  Some of you reading this might not know or remember that January 1st is the common birthday for every thoroughbred regardless of their actual birth date.  All the babies born in 2019 became yearlings, yearlings became 2 year olds and so on.

This Year Rosecrest Farm celebrated Darby’s Hope turning 23, she’s our oldest horse, but certainly doesn’t show her age when running with the younger retirees.  I know some guests might not remember her but all remember the next oldest horse here, Tinner’s Storm ( son of Tinner’s Way and grandson of Secretariat) he celebrates being 20 years old.  He’s healthy and at this time of the year very fluffy with his winter coat.  Earlier this week he was given mints and carrots from Pat Sormani who came specifically to see him.  Pat has been a long time fan of Tinner’s Way and because of that she was very excited to visit Tinner’s Storm, and he loved all the special attention.  Pat was also very happy with her pen that she purchased which is from our new line of souveniers.

January starts the foaling season. We have 12 expecting mamas and 4 of them for the first time. I was already to give you the foaling dates coming up, 4 of them due this month, but instead Dialed To Go wanted to be the story by not waiting for her due date but delivered a beautiful colt by Sharp Azteca, mom and baby are doing good. Being her first baby and early he is a little smaller than average but he makes up for that with a big attitude. Mama was very happy that the little guy was not too eager to get up giving her time to rest after a relatively easy delivery where she needed very little assistance.

So, we have three more this month. Two that will be mamas for the first time….Shane’s Girlfriend in foal to Arrogate and Sweet Halory in foal to Goldencents. The third is Bellezza Rosso in foal to Goldencents and she has already produced a stakes winner by Into Mischief.

We’ve had many questions about who’s at the track, so let me bring you up to date. We have two hombreds that need to be in your virtual stable. Gold Account, by Goldencents out of Rose Dela Troienne, is looking forward to his 2nd race next week. His first race was as his trainer, Ignacio Correas, wanted ….. a good learning experience. He told the jockey to break him out of the gate quickly then settle him in the middle of the pack and again reiterated keep it a positive experience. Plan was accomplished…… he didn’t win but Ignacio was very happy with what Gold Account learned. I have to boast…. Gold Account had a bullet work this week at keeneland. A bullet work means he was the fastest horse being timed that day at a certain distance. Fingers crossed for his next race.

Rose of Paris

Another homebred, “Rose of Paris”, is back at the track. She is a Strong Mandate filly out of Charley’s Hope ( granddaughter of Darby’s Hope our oldest horse). She is 3 years old and will have her first start sometime this summer. She has been at the farm growing like a weed ( already 16.2) after returning from Florida where Jim and Tori Gladwell got her ready to be a racehorse. They were impressed with her mind and her action, so of course we have high hopes. We currently own 100% of her and are looking to find someone who wants to experience the excitement of owning part of a racehorse. If that’s you , call the office for more details.

Well, I need to get to Lil’s so I’ll end with a Thank You to all of you who helped make 2019 a good year and hope to see you in 2020.
