Not sure about you but I can’t believe summer is officially here.  I’ve been busy at Lil’s with more caterings and some special events during Derby week.  The mares have been busy too, having their babies and the race fillies are looking for their first race this year. 

Let’s start with your favorite topic, BABIES:

Onus made us wait three weeks for her baby . But wow, this colt by Violence was worth the wait.  He looked like he was two weeks old when born.  Mama enjoyed a few minutes of rest after her delivery, before he got up and kept her on her toes.  This is not her first foal and she’s learned great balance of watching her baby but not hovering.  She allows him plenty of play time with the other foals. 

We only had to wait another four days for Pistol Packin Rose to deliver her colt by Cyberknife.  Where Onus was so considerate and delivered her baby before 11:00 PM, Pistol waited until after midnight and delivered her baby on April 1^st.  I think a perfect name for him would be “No Fooling”.   His personality is shining through as one of the ring leaders of the group.  He’s always ready for some horse play. 

The next mare to deliver was Hot Mocha.  This is her first baby so we weren’t sure how she was going to be but she is she is always a calm sweet mare.  She surprised us by having her baby four days earlier than her projected due date and at 4:30 PM she had just gotten in her stall and the baby decided why wait, I’m ready to stretch my legs and get on with this life.  He is the fourth baby and the fourth colt.  Just like his mama and his sire, Yaupon, he is dark bay .  He keeps his mama chasing him around the paddock because she doesn’t like him to be to far away. 

The last two mares weren’t due till May 1^st, so we had a little break.  Pure Confidence decided not to wait till then and on April 27^th she delivered a sweet filly by Maclean’s Music.  And yes, she is our first filly of the year.  Pure Confidence gave all the typical signs that she was going to have her baby that day so at 10:00 it was no surprise.  The two decided it was a good idea to rest before the next stage of life.  First thing to do was figure out how these long legs work.  After several tries she realized she had to get her two front legs stretched out in front of herself but not crossed over each other to push off on them to stand up.  She finally got up and loves playing peek-a-boo with Chuck in the stall.  She likes standing in front of the stall door watching all that’s going on until you open the door, she then darts around mom and peeks around her to see what’s next. 

Get Back Anne was showing all the typical signs that it was getting close for her delivery but then decided to extend our wait for another 10 days.  She also decided to add a little drama to her delivery by having everyone on their toes all night giving all the signs of delivery except laying down and having the baby.  By the next morning she acted as though it was all a false alarm and it wasn’t’ going to happen so she was turned out for the day but within just a couple of hours she decided it was time.  But would she let anyone catch her to be brought into the barn, NO WAY.  She evaded them for a while and just as they got her out of the pasture she decided it was a perfect morning to deliver her filly in the grass outside.  This Goldencents girl has lots of leg. 

Another year is done, with all the moms and babies doing great.  

RACING NEWS

Skylarose is entered in a race on Friday May 30^th at Belterra and Gidget Rose Lee is entered at the same track on Saturday May 31^st.  We wish them and all the partners lots of luck!!
